In 2022, Robert Baum got the call every Pennsylvania outdoorsman dreams about — he had drawn a once-in-a-lifetime Pennsylvania bull elk tag. Our field staff member and good friend, Austin Piety, was invited along to film the adventure. Three years later, we sat down with both Bob and Austin to relive this unforgettable Pennsylvania elk hunt — from the draw, to the hunt itself, to the memories that will last forever. Created as a film project for the 2022 Badlands Film Festival in Indianapolis, Father & Son was a story I wanted to tell about how much my father has deeply impacted not just my woodsmanship, but my entire life. It is a thank you letter the only way I know how to write one, through film. Although it was not selected to even air at the film festival, this is by far the most heart and soul I have ever put into a project. Thanks for everything you do pops, here's to many more hunts together.
We Are Hunters was filmed and edited for a final portfolio project at the Academy of Media Production in which I was attending in 2017. Heavily inspired by Donnie Vincent at the time, I sought to bring to life what being a hunter truly meant through my best efforts at a cinematic experience and how we feel being in nature draws us closer to the Lord. This was my first attempt at an in depth story telling script. Although it's under 5 minutes, at the time this short film felt like a feature movie to me. Thank you Tony Campisi for being a part of this. We are hunters and we are not ashamed of it.
